Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra Review: Big Screen, Small Upgrades, Serious Performance

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra Review

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is an impressive piece of tech, boasting an enormous 14.6-inch display, cutting-edge power, and a sleek design that makes it one of the top Android tablets available. Whether you’re editing photos, drawing, or simply watching movies, this tablet does it all — and does it well. But, let’s be honest: if you’re upgrading from a Tab S8 or Tab S9 Ultra, the improvements here are more incremental than revolutionary.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes the S10 Ultra stand out, where it’s similar to its predecessors, and whether it’s worth the high price tag if you already own the previous models.

Design: Light on Changes, Big on Comfort

Samsung knows how to design a premium tablet. The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra feels incredibly sleek and high-end with its aluminum frame, curved edges, and smooth Gorilla Glass front. At 718g, it’s lighter than the Tab S9 Ultra, and 5.4mm thin, which makes it comfortable to hold despite the gigantic screen. While it’s easier to grip than you might expect, you’ll still need to use both hands for most tasks. One-handed use for extended periods? Not likely.

The standout design change here is the new anti-reflective coating on the display, which drastically reduces glare in bright environments without sacrificing screen quality. Whether you’re outdoors on a sunny day or working in a well-lit room, the Tab S10 Ultra is one of the best tablets for tackling glare. Samsung even brought over the same Gorilla Glass used in their flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra, so it’s more resistant to scratches and smudges than previous versions.

It also boasts IP68 water resistance, making it a great option for creative types who need to jot down notes or draw near water. If you accidentally spill something or get caught in the rain, the Tab S10 Ultra won’t skip a beat.

That said, the keyboard folio accessory doesn’t get much love this year. The design is largely unchanged, and while it’s fine for light typing, it’s not exactly comfortable for long sessions, especially if you like working in your lap. If productivity is a key consideration for you, consider pairing the Tab S10 Ultra with a more solid external keyboard.

Display: Gorgeous but Not Groundbreaking

Here’s where Samsung truly flexes its muscles. The Tab S10 Ultra continues the legacy of its predecessors with an absolutely stunning display. With a 14.6-inch AMOLED screen, this tablet delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and crisp details, making it an absolute joy to watch content on. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures everything feels buttery smooth, from scrolling through menus to playing fast-paced games.

In terms of brightness, though, this year’s model doesn’t quite take the crown. The peak brightness clocks in at 930 nits when viewing HDR content, but the typical brightness is closer to 400 nits. While that’s more than enough for everyday use, it does trail behind the competition, especially when compared to the iPad Pro’s OLED display, which takes the lead in both color vibrancy and brightness.

What sets the Tab S10 Ultra apart, however, is the anti-reflective coating, which drastically reduces screen glare. This is a boon for anyone who plans to use the tablet outside or in brightly lit rooms. Just don’t go slapping a standard screen protector on it—this will undo the entire point of the reflective coating. If you’re concerned about scratches, consider a non-reflective screen protector, though be careful as micro-scratches can still appear with heavy use.

Camera: Decent, But Not a Game Changer

Let’s be honest — tablets aren’t known for their amazing cameras, and the Tab S10 Ultra doesn’t do much to break that trend. While the rear cameras feature a 13MP primary and 8MP ultra-wide sensor, they’re good enough for tasks like document scanning or using the tablet as an external monitor for your smartphone photos. But don’t expect this to replace your main camera — the quality just isn’t on par with what you’d get from a dedicated camera setup.

On the front, the dual 12MP cameras do an admirable job of handling video calls, with good clarity in bright conditions. However, just like the rear cameras, low-light performance leaves a lot to be desired.

That being said, the Tab S10 Ultra supports 4K video recording at 30fps, but it’s worth noting that the ultra-wide rear camera does not support 4K.

Performance: A Powerhouse in a Slim Package

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is powered by the Dimensity 9300+ chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM in the base configuration, and an impressive 16GB of RAM on the higher-end models. It’s more than capable of handling everything from 4K video editing to gaming. Whether you’re working in apps like Lightroom, multitasking across multiple apps in DeX mode, or playing demanding games like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, the tablet handles it all with ease.

In gaming tests, the Tab S10 Ultra delivers solid frame rates (about 60fps even at max settings), and the MediaTek Dimensity chip performs exceptionally well in the tablet form factor, thanks to its ability to keep temperatures down. It’s a smoother, cooler performer than some phones running the same chip.

The tablet also boasts an 11,200mAh battery that easily gets you through a day of work or entertainment. If you’re using it for more intensive tasks, you’ll see some drain — for example, gaming for about three hours will drop the battery by 50%, but watching video or doing light productivity work will easily stretch it through the day.

Software & Productivity: The Android Advantage

While the Tab S10 Ultra doesn’t necessarily bring anything revolutionary in terms of hardware, the software experience is where it shines. With One UI 6.1 running on Android 14, Samsung’s tablet software is one of the best in the business. The DeX mode offers a desktop-like experience, which is fantastic for anyone looking to use this tablet as a productivity machine. You can pair it with a keyboard and mouse, or even project your workspace to an external monitor — essentially turning it into a laptop replacement for Windows users.

If you’re into note-taking or digital art, the S Pen is one of the best in the game, offering 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity for a precise, natural feel. Apps like GoodNotes and Concepts run beautifully on the large screen, but keep in mind that Android still lags behind iOS when it comes to creative apps. If you’re a pro-level editor relying on apps like ProCreate, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut, the iPad Pro is still the better choice.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth the Upgrade?

If you’re already using a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra or S9 Ultra, the Tab S10 Ultra doesn’t offer enough of an upgrade to justify the price, unless you’re specifically after that anti-reflective coating or need a slightly lighter, thinner model. The lack of any major improvements in the display brightness, camera specs, or design makes this more of a refresh than a ground-breaking update.

That said, if you’re new to the world of oversized Android tablets, the Tab S10 Ultra is still the best premium option available. It offers excellent performance, a gorgeous display, and solid productivity features, making it an excellent choice for anyone who needs a big-screen Android device.

However, if you’re on a budget, the Tab S9 Ultra or Tab S8 Ultra will likely serve you just as well, at a significantly lower price.
